AWARD CRITERIA

NSMEA Development Grant

The Nova Scotia Music Educators Association offers development grants for special projects and professional development. Applicants must be active members of the NSMEA.

Consideration will be given to first-time applicants. The amount of the grant will not exceed 50% of the actual cost of the project. Total available funds for all grant applications are $1000 in 2007-2008. The selection committee determines the allocation of grants. All decisions made by the selection committee are final. An individual can only be awarded this grant, once, in a three year period. The committee reserves the right not to award the grant in any given year.

Special Projects - To assist with special projects relating to ongoing education in the field of music (performance, music education or composition). Applications must be received by November 15.

Professional Development - To assist with study at a recognized university, institute or conducting workshop. In selecting the recipient, the committee will consider the direct application of the course to the present teaching assignment. Applications must be received by August 31.

Upon completion of the special project or study the successful applicant will agree to do one of the following:

(1) a presentation at the fall conference,

(2) an article for the NSMEA journal/Newsletter.

NSMEA Development Grant Application

NSMEA Music Workshop Funding Request

The NSMEA offers funding for NSMEA members who undertake to present a workshop for music educators. Applicant is offered fifty percent (50%) of the cost to a maximum of $250. In 2007-2008 there are 4 grants totalling $1000 available.

CRITERIA

1. Any NSMEA member may apply

2. Application forms shall be submitted no later than one month before the requested workshop.

3. A complete financial statement and a report of workshop highlights must be sent within seven (7) days of the completion of the workshop to the NSMEA Professional Development Committee. A cheque will then be forwarded.

4. Funding will be allotted for the first four (4) workshop requests. Any funding requests thereafter will be dependent upon the state of the annual NSMEA budget. Preference will be given to first time applicants.

5. Funding requests will be granted at the discretion of the Professional Development funding committee. The decision of the Professional Development committee will be final.

NSMEA Workshop Grant Application

Summer Study Bursary Application

1. A letter written by the applicant indicating your interests in summer study and your specific needs;

2. A letter of recommendation from your music teacher, who is an active member of NSMEA, indicating specific recommendations regarding progress, potential and responsibility. An additional letter from a music teacher who is not a member of NSMEA is also acceptable.

If you wish to be considered for the Frances Tyrrell Memorial Summer Study Bursary, please detail your leadership qualities and experience in your application letter.  Frances Tyrrell was a music educator and the Music Supervisor for the former Halifax County-Bedford District School Board.  Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate leadership qualities in their involvement with music.  The successful applicant will receive an award of $200 to defray the cost of a summer music camp.
